Literature Text

Lust |ləst|
noun
• [in sing. ] a passionate desire for something

They say those who wander are lost,
lost in their minds and lost in their bodies,
adrift in the oceans of their cells,
of the blood thrumming through their veins.

[ But I want to explore, they say,
fingers grappling at the air in front of them
as if they can grab hold and pull themselves forward,
away from the known and into the unknown. ]

They say those who wonder are broken,
questioning the way the world works,
the way the body knows how to breathe,
ribs expanding and collapsing to a song that
nobody can hear.

[ Why, they question, they question everything,
the desire to know so strong
it's a physical ache,
that it tugs at their heart until they're mad with it. ]

They grin at the open sea,
one wanting to get lost in it,
and the other wanting to know why.

They don't understand each other,
the one who questions and the one who does,
but it's a lonely road when you're alone
and there's a peaceful content when, late at night,
the stars peak out and the wonderer explains why
and the wanderer's satisfied with dreaming.
I DON'T KNOW????????
I love the word wanderlust, though. Wonderlust has a nice ring to it as well.
